Selling Mods - Creator Payout Guide

The full pitch lives on Sell GTA 6 Mods - this guide is the deeper walkthrough. Pricing, payouts, version updates, taxes, the creator tier ladder. Whether you're shipping your first free mod or scaling a paid pack catalogue, everything you need to know is below.

Two paths to publish

Free path - sign up, head to Upload a Mod, set the price to $0 and ship. No payment account required, ever. Anyone with an account can publish unlimited free mods today. Buyers click *Get free* and the file lands in their library - no checkout, no card on file.

Paid path - go to your dashboard, click *Become a seller*, pick your country and fill Stripe's hosted form (name, DOB, accept TOS, ~90 sec). Once Stripe flips your account to charges-enabled, the price field unlocks across the site and any of your existing free mods can be re-priced.

What you actually earn

GTAModding.net takes a flat 15% platform fee on paid sales. Stripe's standard processing (~2.9% + $0.30 per US transaction; varies by country) comes out of the seller's share too - we don't absorb it. On a $10 paid sale: $1.50 platform, ~$0.59 Stripe, you receive ~$7.91 net. Free mods cost nothing on either side: no Stripe charge, no platform cut.

Pricing tactics that work

Pricing is creator-set. $0 (free) is always allowed; paid pricing starts at $0.50 (Stripe's actual minimum charge - anything lower and the transaction fails) and tops out at $500. Stripe handles currency conversion automatically: a buyer in EUR pays in EUR, you get paid in your local currency.

Rule-of-thumb pricing by mod type:

Browse the marketplace sorted by price to see what comparable mods charge - pricing within the band of your category usually converts better than aiming above it.

Categories and playstyles

Each mod can be listed under up to 3 categories (Vehicles, Maps, Scripts, Weapons, Textures, Tools and more) and up to 3 playstyles (Roleplay, Racing, Freeroam, FiveM, MLO Interiors, Cinematic, Story, SixM).

The first category you select is the primary - it's the canonical placement and the one that shows in your mod's breadcrumb. The others cross-list your mod on those landing pages too. A roleplay vehicle pack appears in BOTH Vehicles AND Roleplay automatically. Tags are separate, free-form keywords for search - use them for the specific stuff (model name, engine swap, year, brand) that doesn't fit a fixed taxonomy.

Payouts

Once Stripe approves your bank verification, payouts run automatically on the schedule you pick - daily, weekly or monthly - straight to your bank in your local currency. There's no *request payout* button. The first payout is held 7-14 days as a fraud reserve, then per your schedule.

Stripe Connect supports 48 countries (US, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, EU + UK + Switzerland, Australia, NZ, Japan, Singapore, India, UAE and more). The country is locked once your Stripe account is created, so pick carefully.

Updating your mod

Buyers get every version of your mod for free for the lifetime of their library entitlement - current AND historical. When you ship an update via My Mods → *Edit* → Upload new version, past buyers see it on their next download with no repurchase. They can also roll back to any older version via the version dropdown if a new release breaks for them.

Deleting vs Discontinuing

You can hard-delete your mod (and purge every uploaded version, the thumbnail and screenshots from our CDN) only while no one has bought it. Once a single buyer is in (paid or free claim), the delete button disappears: they're entitled to keep downloading what they got.

Use the Discontinued toggle instead - it keeps existing buyers' library access intact while signaling to prospective buyers that you're no longer actively maintaining the mod.

File scanning

Every upload runs through VirusTotal automatically (60+ antivirus engines). Clean scans auto-publish in under 5 minutes. Files larger than 650 MB skip the scan because that's VirusTotal's URL-scan ceiling - those publish with a clear notice on the listing. Anything flagged goes to human moderation, usually resolved within 24 hours.

Taxes

Stripe handles tax forms automatically. US sellers earning $600+ in a calendar year get a 1099-K from Stripe directly. International sellers receive the equivalent for their jurisdiction. We don't collect or remit your income tax - that's between you and your country's tax authority. For digital-goods VAT/GST, Stripe Tax can be enabled later if your volume justifies it.

The creator tier ladder

Every approved mod earns reputation. Higher tiers unlock better placement and (at the top) lower platform fees:

  • [Rising](/creators/rising) - 0-3 approved mods. Listed in marketplace search the moment your first mod is approved.
  • [Verified](/creators/verified) - 4+ mods · 4.0+ avg rating. Verified badge on every listing. Auto-qualifies for the Featured rail.
  • [Pro Creator](/creators/pro) - 500K+ downloads · 4.5+ avg rating. Priority placement, lower platform fee, partner support channel.
  • [Legend](/creators/elite) - Hand-picked or 2M+ downloads. Permanent homepage residency, partner marketing budget, dedicated AM.

Promotional tactics that move sales

  • Respond to every comment in the first 24 hours after launch - engagement directly correlates with repeat sales.
  • Keep your readme tight: exact install paths, prerequisites, version compatibility. Link buyers to the Install Guide so they have a fallback.
  • Screenshot the in-game result, not just the asset preview. Buyers convert on what they'll *see when playing*.
  • Ship a free demo alongside your paid pack - free-to-paid conversion beats cold acquisition.
  • Tag accurately so the cross-listing surfaces you on more landing pages.

Talk to other creators

The forums host work-in-progress threads, contests, technical Q&A and creator showcases. The Creators directory shows who's leading by sales and ratings - useful for benchmarking your own pricing and pack scope. New here? Start with Creating Your First Vehicle Mod or Best Tools for GTA 6 Modding.
