About servers mods

GTA multiplayer servers use one of a handful of frameworks. FiveM has the largest community, but it's not the only player. Both RAGE MP and alt:V have large communities, and standalone server stacks also exist for niche purposes (race servers, DM-only arenas, freeroam playgrounds). The Servers playstyle aggregates all server-side resources from any framework.

Common server stack: a multiplayer core (FiveM, RAGE MP, alt:V), a roleplay or PvP layer if applicable, server-side scripts for implementing game modes, an admin / moderation toolkit, an anti-cheat layer and voice integration (TeamSpeak / Discord / in-game). Connect to a hosting provider capable of handling your concurrent players.

Hosting your first server? Many communities begin with a tiny VPS or shared hosting plan just to make sure everything works with the stack, before graduating to a dedicated box when concurrent players regularly hit 50-100+. See the Scripts and Tools categories for all your needs outside of the framework itself.

Server mods will only work on the framework they target. You cannot run a RAGE MP resource on FiveM, for example, or vice versa. Check the mod's compatibility tags before installing it. If you're going strictly with native GTA 6 multiplayer (once SixM releases), keep an eye on that playstyle for native packages.

Common questions about servers mods

What server frameworks does GTA 6 support?

As of launch, there is still a lot left to come. Expected outcomes: something to replace FiveM (probably named SixM), RAGE MP and alt:V both supporting GTA 6, and maybe standalone server stacks for race / PvP modes. This page serves to aggregate resources for all of them.

Do I need a server to play multiplayer GTA 6?

GTA Online (Rockstar's official multiplayer) does not require a private server - you connect to it through the base game. Custom multiplayer (FiveM-style RP, RAGE MP DM, alt:V freeroam) requires a private server that you join through the framework's launcher.

How much does it cost to host a server?

Cheap end: $5-10/month VPS to host a small (under 32 player) server. Mid: $30-80/month for a correctly spec'd dedicated machine hosting 100-300 players. Big: $200+/month dedicated box or multi-node cluster to host 500+ player communities. The community has hosting guides that compare several hosting providers.

Can server mods include anti-cheat?

Yes - many have anti-cheat layers (server-side validation, client integrity verification, sanity bounds on weapon stats). Anti-cheat is especially important on PvP servers because even the slightest exploit wrecks competitive integrity.
