Compiling everything we know about modding GTA 6 ahead of the PC release.

Confirmed by Take-Two:

  • Their existing modding policy carries forward to GTA VI. Single-player mods on PC are permitted as long as they don't include ripped Take-Two IP.
  • GTA Online has a strict no-mods policy. BattlEye-style anti-cheat will detect and ban.

What we don't know yet:

  • Whether the existing script-hook frameworks will work on day one or need ports.
  • File format changes (RPF, YDR, YTD) - Rockstar typically iterates between titles.
  • Whether OpenIV-style tools will get same legal cover as previous titles.

What's likely:

  • Vehicle and texture mods will land first (lower complexity).
  • Major map overhauls and total conversions take 6-12 months post-release historically.
  • Roleplay frameworks (FiveM successors) will have their own ecosystems.
