Cooking up a hot take. I think GTA IV is the most underrated entry in the series.
It got hammered on release for the muted color palette and the slower pace, but rewatching playthroughs in 2026 it's easily the most narratively coherent. The driving feel is different - heavier, more arcade-y in V - but IV's weight makes the chases feel like they matter.
The mod scene also kept it alive way longer than people expected. ICEnhancer was wild for its time.
Counterargument welcome. Doesn't have to be IV - what's the GTA you'd defend hardest?
