Stutter every 30 seconds while driving - even on light mod load

Smooth FPS but a noticeable hitch every ~30 seconds while driving. Only with mods loaded; vanilla is buttery.

Strace-style profiling shows it's some kind of background streaming spike. Anyone else seeing this with a light loadout (just 1-2 mods)?
