Skin mods + RP servers - compatibility expectations?

Roleplay servers usually have their own player models. If I install a skin mod for single-player and switch to a roleplay server, will it carry over or get overridden?

Asking because I want to know if I can have one "look" across both modes or if they're inherently separate.
