Fixing Common Modding Issues

Most GTA 6 modding issues fall into three buckets: crashes on startup, missing textures or models, and scripts not loading. The fix in 90% of cases is to remove the most recent mod, verify game files, and reinstall cleanly. The full install reference is at How to Install GTA 6 Mods.

Crashes on startup

Remove your most recent mod, verify the game files through your launcher (Steam → *Properties* → *Local Files* → *Verify Integrity*), and reinstall the mod cleanly. If it still crashes, install HeapAdjuster 600 - heavy mod stacks routinely OOM without it. The Crashes & Bugs forum has install-specific recipes for almost every common crash signature.

Missing textures or pink/black surfaces

Usually means the mod was installed in the wrong RPF archive, or the texture dictionary (.ytd) file was corrupted on extraction. Re-extract the mod with OpenIV (use *Edit Mode*, not *Replace*) and verify the path in the readme matches what the mod expects. The Textures category lists the most-installed packs so you can compare known-good install paths.

Scripts not loading

Check that Rage Script Hook is installed and up to date - Rockstar patches break script hooks every major update. The .asi files MUST sit in the game root, not a subfolder. If a specific script isn't firing, check the mod's comments - most issues have already been hit and solved by the community.

Mod conflicts

If two mods replace the same file (common with texture overhauls and vehicle replacements), only one wins. Install one at a time, test, and keep a load-order list. The Compatibility & Conflicts forum is the fastest place to ask about specific mod combinations.
