Fixing Common Modding Issues

Most GTA 6 modding problems fall into three categories: crashes on startup, missing textures or models, and scripts not loading. In 90% of cases, the solution is to uninstall the most recently added mod, verify game files, and then reinstall cleanly. Full installation instructions can be found here: How to Install GTA 6 Mods.

Crashes on startup

Delete your most recent mod, verify your game files via your launcher (Steam → *Properties* → *Local Files* → *Verify Integrity*), and try reinstalling your mod cleanly. If that doesn't work, install HeapAdjuster 600. Large mod stacks commonly OOM without HeapAdjuster. Missing textures or pink/black surfaces

Typically indicates that the mod was installed into the wrong RPF archive or the texture dictionary (.ytd) file got corrupted upon extraction. Try extracting the mod again with OpenIV (*Edit Mode*, not *Replace*) and double-check that the install path you are putting it in matches what is written in the readme file. The Textures category lists the most-installed packs so you can compare the install paths of known-working installations.

Scripts not loading

Make sure Rage Script Hook is installed and up to date. Rockstar tends to break script hooks with every major patch. The .asi files MUST reside in the game root, not inside a subfolder. If you're having trouble with a specific script not firing, look in the comments of the mod. Chances are someone has already experienced the problem and found a fix.

Mod conflicts

When two mods overwrite the same file (very common with texture overhauls and vehicle replacements), only one of them will take precedence. Install mods one by one and test extensively.
