How to Install Mods in GTA 6 (Step by Step)

1. Back up your game folder

Always back up your game folder before installing your first mod. Mods can conflict with each other or install corrupt files that brick your game - having a backup will save you hours of having to reinstall everything. Make a copy of the entire GTA 6 install folder and put it somewhere else before modifying anything.

2. Install the prerequisites

Most mods require at least one of two utilities: Rage Script Hook (which loads C# / Lua scripts into the running game) and OpenIV (which browses and edits RPF archives). They're both free and can be found in the Tools category. If you intend to stack large mod packs, you'll also want HeapAdjuster 600, which expands the memory heap and stops the game OOM-crashing on load.

3. Drop the files in the right place

To install script mods, place the .asi and .dll files in your GTA 6 install root folder (not a subfolder). For texture mods and vehicle replacements, simply replace files inside the RPF archives through OpenIV's *Edit Mode*. 4. Stay offline the first time
